FAQ’s

Where are you located?

The studio space is at 149 Bourke Road, Glen Iris – near Central Park and next door to Sami’s Fish n Chips. It’s a small shopfront with frosted windows and no formal signage. Just knock on the door at your scheduled session time and I’ll be with you.

What’s the parking situation like?

There’s some one-hour street parking out the front. But if local restaurant Grazia is open, parking can be hectic. I’d recommend allowing ample time to find a parking spot before your session.

Is the building accessible?

There is an accessible entrance available. Just let me know in advance and I’ll provide you with directions.

How many people can I bring to my session?

Sessions are for individuals, couples/duos, or one family only. Email me if you’re after something outside of this: jay@jayhynes.com

What should I wear?

Wear something that makes you feel awesome. Bring a couple of outfits, if you like. Block colours are always a good option. Stripes and logos can be tricky. You might want to pay extra attention to your hair or makeup. In other words, come to your session ready to slay!

Is there somewhere on site I can freshen up?

Yep, there’s a powder room with space to change outfits, plus a separate mirror. No shower facilities.

What should I expect at the portrait session?

It’s pretty relaxed in here. I aim to make everyone feel super comfortable. We’ll play some of your favourite tunes. I’ll give you some tips on how best to pose. I won’t use any fashion photographer catch phrases. Probably, I’ll talk a bit about footy. If you don’t let me know what music you like, there’s a fair chance I’ll play AC/DC or The Black Keys.

What should I expect from the images?

My aim is to capture authentic shots of you/your partner/your mate or your family. If you’re after cheesy, formal, overly posed shots, then my apologies, you’re on the wrong website. I’ll capture a range of options for you, full length, mid and close up. After your session, I will process the images and send them your way.

Are the images black & white?

Yes, all the images will be black & white. However, I can provide colour versions if required.

When and how will I receive my portraits?

I’ll email you a link with high resolution files of all your images within five business days of your portrait session.

What if I want the images ASAP?

Just send me an email and I’ll let you know if I can make your deadline: jay@jayhynes.com

Can I order prints from you?

I leave this part up to the experts. I don’t have any deals or discounts, but I’ve personally used all these people and can recommend them.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Please provide me with 24 hours’ notice and we can arrange another time.

I received a voucher – how do I redeem it?

Just go to the booking system and select your preferred day and time. When you get to the payment section, there’ll be an option to pay with your voucher.

A bit of a personal one – tell me more about why you’re doing these sessions?

Aside from my love of shooting ads, I love shooting portraits. I love chatting with people. I am a two-time National Photographic Portrait Prize finalist. Before being a photographer I spent over a decade as a senior art director at leading ad agencies around Melbourne. This is where I developed my eye and also my love for black jeans and t-shirts. I’ve opened up Jay’s Portrait Shop so I can capture authentic moments for individuals and families, lit in a classic, timeless way.

Help, I still have questions!

No worries. Just email me jay@jayhynes.com

T&C’s

Please provide 24 hours notice of cancellation and we can arrange another time for your session. Life can be hectic and I understand things can happen, but the more notice, the better.

Please be on time for your session. If you're 5 minutes late we still have time to capture a heap of shots but any later and we'll struggle. If you're any later we can still shoot but only until your original session ends.

I realise T&C's are boring but this will help ensure that you get a bunch of awesome shots and that they entire day runs smoothly.
